The United Arab Emirates has made a huge step towards sustainability with the introduction of the Blue Residency visa, which grants a ten-year stay to those who have shown extraordinary commitment to environmental conservation on land and in the ocean.
The Blue Residency visa initiative was introduced on 15th May in a cabinet meeting by H.E Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai, with the intention of recognizing individuals who have made noteworthy contributions to environmental protection, be it via land preservation programs, marine conservation campaigns, or developments in sustainable technologies.
Sheikh Mohammed announced on social media that 2024 will be a year of environmental management and stressed the significance of sustainability. He emphasized the crucial link between environmental sustainability and economic growth and restated UAE’s commitment to a sustainable future.
It is advised that those who qualify for the Blue Residency visa apply via the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. Authorities may also propose people for long-term residency who have made significant contributions to environmental conservation.
In the past, UAE resident visas have had only two years of Visa to apply for. The Golden Visa program, which targets a number of groups including investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, exceptional students, and leaders in humanitarianism, was introduced in 2019 and extended residency to ten years. Expanding on this effort, the UAE introduced the Green Visas in the years that followed, providing skilled workers, independent contractors, investors, and business owners with a five-year validity period.
The introduction of the Blue Residency visa highlights the United Arab Emirates’ dedication to environmental sustainability and acknowledges the crucial role that individuals play in promoting positive changes for the environment.
